High School UIL Advancing to Regionals!!

Students from Apple Springs High School spent a portion of their recent Spring Break Holidays competing in the 2017 UIL District Academic and Literary Contest.  The students’ time and effort was rewarded as several students and teams brought home medals for their accomplishments.

In the individual events, Jayvan Aycock placed 4th in Number Sense and 6th in Calculator.  Tristen Davis placed 2nd in Accounting.  Makayla Davidson won 1st place in Mathematics, 3rd in Accounting and 4th in Calculator.  Ethan Karber earned 4th place in Current Issues and 5th place in both Spelling and Social Studies.  Adrien Lee placed 2nd in Number Sense, 3rd in Calculator, 4th in Accounting and 5th in Mathematics.  Saraela Lee won 3rd in Feature Writing.  Trey Rogers placed 1st in Calculator and recorded 5th place finishes in Editorial Writing, Feature Writing and News Writing.  Sam Syzdek earned 1st place finishes in both Accounting and Number Sense.  He also placed 4th in Mathematics and 7th in Current Issues.  Drayden Tullos scored a 9th place finish in Current Issues.

Apple Springs also did extremely well in the team competitions.  The Accounting Team of Sam Syzdek, Tristen Davis, Mikayla Davidson and Adrien Lee won 1st place.  Apple Springs won 1st in Team Calculator.  Members are Trey Rogers, Adrien Lee, Mikayla Davidson and Jayvan Aycock.  Mikayla Davidson, Sam Syzdek, Adrien Lee and Trey Rogers made up the Mathematics Team who also won 1st place.  The AS Number Sense Team also brought home the gold. That team consists of Sam Syzdek, Adrien Lee, Jayvan Aycock and Ethan Karber.  The Current Issues Team of Ethan Karber, Sam Syzdek, Drayden Tullos and Tristen Davis took 2nd place.  Finally, the Social Studies Team of Ethan Karber, Tristen Davis, Jayvan Aycock and Drayden Tullos also finished in 2nd place.

The High School math events are coached by Mrs. Sylvia Fant and the UIL team is under the direction of Mr. Michael Powell.  Both are extremely proud of the marvelous results captured by our students.  The next round of competition for these students will be the Regional Tournament on April 7th and 8th.  Congratulations and good luck!
