The Apple Springs Eagles traveled to Tyler on September 1 to officially kick-off the 2017 high school football season against King’s Academy.  In an unusually close game for six-man football, the Eagles found themselves trailing or tied with the Knights for the majority of the contest.  Apple Springs never had the lead until the last few moments of the game, when it counted.  The Eagles won 32-31.

Scoring for the Eagles were Lane Spring, Tristen Davis, Jayvan Aycock and Blayne Coleman.  Spring and Davis also recorded the best defensive stats of the night.  Spring had 6 tackles and Davis had 5.  Mason Suggs, Blayne Coleman, Juan Rangel, Jayvan Aycock, Reese White, Ethan Hollis and Jacob Freeman also recorded defensive stops for the Eagles. Suggs and White each recovered an on-side kick and Davis recovered a punt muffed by the Knights. “It was an ugly win”, said Head Coach Cody Moree.  “We hadn’t practiced all week because of the weather and it showed – but I’d rather win ugly than lose pretty any day.  I’m proud of how hard we played.”

Apple Springs, now 1-0 will host Sanchez Charter School on Friday, September 8 at Apple Springs ISD.  Kick-off is set for 7pm.
